It’s so bizarre that in this world if you have asthma you take asthma medicine. If you havediabetes you take diabetes medicine. But as soon as you have to take medication for your mind there’s such a stigma behind it.
It’s been almost a year since I finished volunteering at the suicide prevention hotline Samaritans Inc., but I still carry the callers’ stories with me today. Angered by their struggles the callers to the hotline face and their battle with mental illnesses, I was inspired to write a piece called ’10 Ways to Love a Person with a Mental Illness’ for Thought Catalog.
